Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) announced that Tony Vinciquerra will step down from his role as CEO on January 2, 2025. Ravi Ahuja, currently SPE’s Chairman of Global Television Studios and President and COO, will take over as President and CEO.
Vinciquerra, who has led SPE since June 2017, will remain with the company as non-executive Chairman until December 2025. During his tenure, Vinciquerra guided the company through numerous industry challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Hollywood strikes of 2023. He also oversaw five consecutive years of rising profitability.
Under Vinciquerra’s leadership, SPE expanded its film offerings, revamped its television operations, and made strategic acquisitions. Notably, the company purchased Crunchyroll in 2021, significantly boosting its presence in the anime space. Additionally, SPE made key decisions to divest most of its international cable networks and avoid launching a general entertainment streaming service, helping to maintain financial stability amid industry disruptions.
Ravi Ahuja, who joined SPE in 2021, has been a key figure in overseeing the studio’s television production and its business interests in India. He played a major role in acquisitions such as Industrial Media and Bad Wolf. Before SPE, Ahuja held senior roles at Walt Disney Television and Fox Networks Group.
Kenichiro Yoshida, CEO of Sony Group Corporation, commended Vinciquerra’s “strategic vision and outstanding leadership” in transforming SPE. He also expressed confidence in Ahuja’s ability to drive the company’s future growth, pointing to his extensive industry experience.
The leadership change comes as Sony Pictures aims to capitalize on its intellectual property and further solidify its position in the fast-changing media and entertainment landscape.
