Ubisoft has appointed Charlie Guillemot as co-CEO of a newly formed subsidiary backed by Tencent. The new division will focus on developing core Ubisoft franchises including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.
Charlie Guillemot is the son of Ubisoft founder and current CEO Yves Guillemot, a connection that has sparked some industry buzz. However, both Charlie and Ubisoft emphasize that the appointment is based on merit, not family ties.
“Yes, I’m Yves’ son,” Charlie told Variety. “That’s not something I hide from. But my appointment isn’t only about family ties—it’s about what Ubisoft needs at this moment.”
Charlie brings more than a decade of experience to the role, including leadership of the Ubisoft-owned studio Owlient and recent involvement in the company’s internal transformation team.
He’ll share leadership duties with Christophe Derennes, a seasoned Ubisoft veteran with more than 35 years of experience. Derennes was a key figure in founding Ubisoft’s Montreal studio and recently served as Managing Director of Ubisoft North America.
