Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky: “We’re Becoming an AI-First Company That Can Book Trips for You

Airbnb is evolving into an AI-first platform, and CEO Brian Chesky says it’s just the beginning.

During the company’s Q2 earnings call, Chesky outlined Airbnb’s shift toward becoming a fully AI-integrated app, aiming to eventually offer autonomous trip planning and booking services.

“Over the next couple of years, Airbnb will become an AI-first application,” Chesky told analysts. “Eventually, it won’t just help you plan a trip — it will book it for you.”

While many travel companies have used AI for inspiration or suggestions, Airbnb is deploying AI more deeply. The company has built a customer service agent powered by 13 models, trained on tens of thousands of conversations. This AI agent has already reduced the need for human customer support by 15%.

What sets Airbnb apart, according to Chesky, is its goal to make its AI agent “agentic” — capable of understanding, deciding, and taking actions on behalf of users.

“It will not only tell you how to cancel a reservation,” Chesky explained, “it will know which reservation, cancel it, and then help you book your next stay — all without human input.”

Chesky believes the app is headed toward becoming a true “everything app” — offering not just accommodations and experiences, but personalized travel planning, booking, and on-demand services, all through AI.
