- What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
Despite being originally from Australia, I’ve spent most of my adult life in the United States. My journey with FranklinCovey began after reading Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, which led me to study business and organizational development in the US. - What’s been your best ever day at work?
My best days involve working globally, teaching our programs. Meeting and training business leaders across six continents has been an incredible experience. - What’s your secret skill?
My ability to see the big picture and articulate it simply. I’m a natural teacher, and I love seeing people grow. - FranklinCovey is launching The 7 Habits 5.0. What’s your worst habit?
Listening. Habit five, “Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood,” is a work in progress for me. It’s not intuitive, but it’s crucial for effective communication. - You can choose to have any superhero power. What is it and why?
Flying. I love to travel and explore new places. - What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I guard the first hour of my morning for personal renewal—reading, journaling, and exercising—without checking my phone. - And the last thing you do at night?
I turn off electronics an hour before bed, reflect on challenges, and prepare for the next day. This time is crucial for living intentionally and creatively. - How would you describe your job to someone from another planet?
As a coach. My role is to support and empower our incredible team at FranklinCovey. - What would your eulogy say about you?
That I cared deeply and made work fun. Engaging work and a compelling vision are key to a fulfilling life. - If you were given US$50,000 to start a business, what would it be?
A B2C venture focused on human development. There’s immense potential in helping people lead more meaningful lives. - What would the title of your autobiography be?
Take 2. Life is about reinvention and trying new things. - What’s the last thing you did for the first time?
Took a helicopter ride, which was on my bucket list. - What do you think about in the car?
Mostly about current challenges and how to approach them differently, as I work from home and usually head to the airport. - What do you have to do but don’t like?
Administrative tasks that don’t add much value. I’m working to free up more creative time in my day.
In her candid responses, Catherine Nelson reveals a blend of professionalism, introspection, and adventure, offering a unique perspective on leadership and personal growth.
