A retired Amazon Vice President, Ethan Evans, has made a sensational claim that the CEO of a startup where he once worked seduced his wife, leading to the dissolution of his marriage. Evans, who spent over 15 years at Amazon and retired as Vice President of Prime Gaming in 2020, shared his experience in a candid LinkedIn post aimed at offering advice on navigating “unethical leaders” and “political snake pits” in the workplace.
In his post, Evans recounted how the CEO of a startup, where he was previously employed, allegedly seduced his wife in what he described as direct retaliation for his professional disagreements with the executive. “A CEO that I worked for seduced my wife in direct retaliation for my pushback on him at work. He won. I got divorced and left the company,” Evans wrote. He urged others to “learn from my pain,” highlighting the manipulative nature of some corporate leaders.
Although Evans did not name the CEO, speculation quickly arose on social media, with some mistakenly suggesting that he might be referring to Amazon’s Jeff Bezos. However, Evans clarified that the incident involved a startup CEO from 19 years ago, long before his tenure as a Vice President at Amazon.
Evans further elaborated on his experience in his Level Up newsletter, calling it the “worst example” of unethical leadership he encountered during his career. While acknowledging that his marriage had pre-existing issues, Evans emphasized that his wife ultimately made her own choices.
The revelation has sparked widespread discussion, with many praising Evans for his openness and for using his painful experience to help others navigate similar challenges in their careers.
