Nestlé CEO Laurent Freixe Dismissed Over Undisclosed Relationship with Subordinate

Nestlé has announced the immediate dismissal of CEO Laurent Freixe following an internal investigation that revealed an undisclosed romantic relationship with a subordinate—an action deemed a clear violation of the company’s code of conduct.

In a statement released Monday, the Swiss multinational food and beverage giant confirmed that Freixe’s departure was effective immediately. The investigation, initiated after concerns were raised internally, found that Freixe had failed to disclose a romantic relationship with a direct report, breaching the company’s ethical guidelines on workplace conduct.

Laurent Freixe had been with Nestlé for nearly four decades, beginning his career in 1986. He was appointed CEO in 2024 and had served exactly one year in the role. His departure marks a significant shake-up at the top of one of the world’s largest consumer goods companies, known for brands such as Nescafé, KitKat, and Purina.

The company emphasized its commitment to upholding corporate integrity and accountability, regardless of rank or tenure.

“This was a necessary decision,” said Nestlé Chairman Paul Bulcke in the official statement. “Nestlé’s values and governance are the cornerstone of our organization. No individual is above the standards we have set.”

The board has appointed Philipp Navratil, a seasoned Nestlé executive, as the new CEO. Navratil has held multiple leadership roles within the company, most recently heading its coffee division. He is expected to bring stability and continuity during this transition.

The company did not disclose further details regarding the nature of the relationship or the timeline of events leading to the investigation. It also declined to comment on whether legal or financial consequences would follow for Freixe.

Corporate governance experts note that companies globally are increasingly holding senior executives accountable for ethical breaches, especially those involving relationships that could create conflicts of interest or power imbalances in the workplace.

Nestlé’s swift and public response is likely aimed at reinforcing trust among shareholders, employees, and the public. As one of the largest employers in the food industry, Nestlé’s handling of such matters sends a broader signal about the importance of transparency and ethical leadership in multinational corporations.

Freixe has not yet made a public statement regarding his dismissal.

The leadership change is effective immediately, with Nestlé assuring stakeholders that operations will continue without disruption.
