Verizon Chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg has confirmed that the US telecom giant has no intentions of entering the Indian consumer market. Instead, the company remains focused on its core US consumer base while serving businesses across 150 countries through partnerships with local telecom providers.
In an interview with businessline, Vestberg discussed Verizon’s strategic priorities and the evolving telecommunications landscape. He emphasized that despite the buzz around 6G, 5G still has significant untapped potential. Innovations like network slicing and private networks will extend 5G’s relevance for many years.
Verizon has also positioned itself to capitalize on the rise of generative AI through its investments in mobile edge computing, enabling AI applications at the network edge. Vestberg noted that while India is a transformative market, Verizon’s focus remains on leveraging its expertise and infrastructure globally rather than expanding its consumer operations in India.
Regarding cybersecurity, Vestberg highlighted that Verizon has built resilience and protection into its network from the ground up. The company runs its cybersecurity operations internally while collaborating with top security firms and leveraging its team in India.
The Verizon’s strategic direction is clear: prioritize growth within the US market, support global enterprises, and drive innovation in 5G, AI, and cloud computing while maintaining a strong focus on security.
